New Ponies, New Year

I realized something sometime ago,

It wasn't the Year of the Fire Pony.

It's actually the Year of the Wooden Pony!

What's with this Weasyl thing? I know the website, but I just couldn't get the idea on why is it important and why is it different and special from DA, FA and SF?...

I'm just curious about Weasyl. Is it a trend right now?
